- IMPROCES EXAMPLES AND TUTORIAL
-
- Hello! Welcome to the "guided tour" of IMPROCES, an exciting and new
- paint and image processing program for IBM PC's and compatiables.
- IMPROCES is cutting edge software. It runs only on a VGA system in video
- modes from 320x200x256 through 1024x768x256. The program also requires a
- mouse. You will need a copy of IMPROCES to run the examples given here.
- As of this date, version 2.2 is the latest version of IMPROCES and all
- of the examples will coincide with version 2.2 menu selections. Keep
- that in mind when running these examples so you won't be confused when
- later versions of the program come out.
-
- If don't yet have a copy of IMPROCES, call the Dust Devil BBS,
- (702)796-7134 and get the latest version. It will be called IMPROCxx.ZIP
- where xx will be the version and sub-version #. Example: IMPROC22.ZIP
- will be version 2.2, which is the latest as of this date.
-
- This document is divided into two parts, the TUTORIAL SECTION and the
- EXAMPLE SECTION. The TUTORIAL SECTION will cover interactive instruction
- and the EXAMPLE SECTION will cover the included files. The EXAMPLE
- SECTION assumes you have a basic working knowledge of the program.
-
- TUTORIAL SECTION
-
- There are a few things that IMPROCES can do that might not be obvious to
- the casual user of the program. I suggest you print the TUTORIAL SECTION
- and work through the examples one by one.
-
- All of the examples assume that you are starting the program fresh and
- haven't set anything up in any of the functions yet and you are starting
- at the main menu.

- EXAMPLE SECTION
-
- Most of the GIF files are 320x200x256 with the exception of LAVA.GIF
- and ROSE.GIF which are 640x480x256. You should change video modes
- when loading these images to fully appreciate them. The .CCL files
- contains the color cycling settings for the images.
-
- Included in this package are the following files:
-
- ROTATE.GIF: (320x200x256)
- An example of color cycling animation. Color cycle this image. Make sure
- the colors are cycling from 1 to 255.
-
- JOHNCRM.GIF: (320x200x256)
- You MUST color cycle this image. Absolutely spooky. Made with JOHN.GIF,
- CHROMA.MAP, TOOL-PLASMA, and ENHANCE-AVERAGE.
-
- TRIFID.GIF: (320x200x256)
- Example of Contrast Stretching. Looks good with CHROMA.MAP palette
- as well. Image by Doug Schiffer, Prime Focus Imaging, Camden NY using
- the Tycho imaging system.
-
- DRAGO2.GIF: (320x200x256)
- Another must for color cycling. Drawn by Karen Schierhoff using IMPROCES.
- Watch the lighting strike when color cycled. Use the down arrow to
- slow down the cycle for maximum effect.
-
- LAVA.GIF: (640x480x256)
- Drawn by Karen Schierhoff using IMPROCES. Palette can be substitued with
- LAKE.PAL. Great when color cycled, the lava flows around the rock.
-
- ROSE.GIF: (640x480x256)
- Another one by Karen Schierhoff. Originally drawn with IMRPOCES Ver
- 1.1.
-
- CLOUD1.PAL and CLOUD2.PAL:
- By Steve Lumos. Outstanding palettes to use when drawing PLASMA
- clouds for a skyscape. Draw the clouds with the entire palette and
- then Reduce by a factor of four and then Re-Align the palette
- to free your colors up for other things.
-
- CHROMA.MAP
- Taken from the Stone Soup Groups Fractint, the CHROMA.MAP is my
- favorite for colorizing astronomy images.
-
-
- Again, thanks are in order for all the help I've recieved with doing
- this package. Without the people listed below, this package wouldn't
- have come together.
-
- Thanks to:
-
- Steve Lumos. Steve compiled most of this stuff and
- edited this EXAMPLES.DOC file.
-
- Karen Schierhoff. Karen has been an avid user of IMPROCES
- since version 1.1. She created three of GIF files
- included in this package.
-
- Doug Schiffer of Prime Focus Imaging in Camden, NY.
- Doug took the shot of the Trifid Nebula with his
- Tycho Imaging Software. Look him up for more
- information for any of your imaging needs.
-
- Ted and Diana Gruber from Ted Gruber Software
- in Las Vegas, NV. For the use of the Dust Devil
- BBS as a beta test site and support BBS for
- IMPROCES. Call the DDBBS!!! Number given
- above.
